a. Lectures

Soon after it was founded, the Hellenic Society for Aesthetics began to organise public lectures on aesthetics and art.

From the first period the following lectures are indicative:

1962: A series of six lectures by P. A. Michelis, E. Moutsopoulos, D. Fatouros, Y. Sicilianos, A. Terzakis and N. Moutsopoulos.

1963: A series of five lectures by A. Hourmouzios, G. Papaioannou, A. Zoumbos, D. Nianias and T. Papatsonis.

bullet

1964-1965: A series of four lectures by G. Themelis, G. Papaioannou, K. I. Despotopoulos and Mikel Dufrenne. 

bullet

1966: A series of four lectures by P. A. Michelis, A. Phocas, G. Ziogas and H. M. Austin. 

bullet

1969: A lecture by Philippe Minguet.

bullet

1988: Two lectures by S. Donadoni and F. Zeri at the Italian Cultural Institute of Athens, co-organised with the Institute and sponsored by the Michelis Foundation.

In October 2006 a new course of lectures was inaugurated. The speakers are members of the Society and the lectures take place approximately once a month, originally in the Michelis Foundation Library and since January 2009 in the Exhibition and Events Hall of the Michelis Foundation.

To date the following lectures have taken place:

2007: six lectures by C. Dimitsantou-Kremezi, Y. Ioannidis, A. Mirasyesis, T. Pentzopoulou-Valalas, N. Chronis and E. Mavrommatis.

2008: four lectures by M. Kardamitsi-Adami, A. Glykofridi-Leontsini, A. Papadoperaki and E.Tatla.

2009: six lectures by Y. Rapti, E. Constantopoulos, A. Papageorgiou-Venetas, E. Antzoulatou-Retsila, P. Tournikiotis and A. Kouria.

2010: three lectures by A. Kessissoglou, C. V. Proimos and V. Kyrkos.

2011: four lectures by A.-A. Maravelia, V. Petridou, E. Maistrou and Y. Ioannidis with E. Constantopoulos.

b. Events

In addition to lectures the Hellenic Society for Aesthetics organises also events in memory of its members, presentations of books, open discussions and exhibitions of painting.

1988: Event in memory of Takis Papatsonis (sponsored by the Michelis Foundation), in the premises of the Greek Archaeological Society, speakers: D. A. Zivas, K. I. Despotopoulos, K. Michaelides, N. Phocas, K. Tsiropoulos.

1991: Event entitled “Concerns in contemporary musical creation”, Thessaloniki (co-organised with the Department of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, sponsored by the Michelis Foundation). The event was repeated in Athens in the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, speakers: G. Themelis, D. Yiannou, A. Baltas, Y. Sicilianos, M. Adamis and Y. Ioannidis.

1998: Presentation of the Proceedings of the Conference “Children and Aesthetic Education” at the Eleftheroudakis bookstore, speakers: G. Anagnostopoulos, M. Kardamitsi-Adami, Y. Hatzi and L. Benakis.

2001: (a) Public discussions on “The Value of Music” by Yannis Ioannidis and Yorgos Sicilianos. (b) Presentation of the book The Traditional Aegean House by K. Papaioannou, C. Dimitsantou-Kremezi and Maria Finé at the Library of the Michelis Foundation, speakers: D. A. Zivas and V. Panayotopoulos.

2002: Retrospective exhibition of Effie Michelis’ paintings and presentation of the book Greek Naïve Painting by Stelios Lydakis at the “Athenais” multispace (organised and sponsored by the Michelis Foundation), speakers:    G. Anagnostopoulos, S. Lydakis.

2004: Event in memory of Panayotis Michelis on the 35th anniversary of his death, at the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens (sponsored by the Michelis Foundation), speakers: D. A. Zivas, N. Moutsopoulos, T. Pentzopoulou-Valalas, C. Dimitsantou-Kremezi.

2005: First screening of the documentary by N. Matsas Greek Naïf Painters at the Athens War Museum.

2006: Event in memory of Yorgos Sicilianos at the Goethe Institut in Athens: concert by Ermis Theodorakis (piano) and Georgios Demertzis (violin), speakers: D. A. Zivas, A. Kostios, Y. Ioannidis.
